If God is a Father like I am, He loves when His children are grateful for what He gives them and does for them. I absolutely love it when my children take the initiative to intentionally say they are grateful for something I've provided for them. And in some ways, the smaller the 'thing,' the more I'm struck by it. It means that they recognize that I'm doing something for them and they're not taking it for granted.
I love it...and it makes me enjoy providing for them and blessing them - even makes me want to do it more.
I'm betting that God feels the same way.
Recently a Soldier in my battalion was killed in a tragic car accident. As I was grieving with the family and went to the family funeral, I was struck by the reality of being grateful to be alive. Can't remember the last time I thanked God for that, but I did that day, and I do today.
Earlier today as my wife and I had some rare down-time, we talked about our three most important accomplishments or experiences in 2010. It made me incredibly grateful - and it also made me look forward to 2011 with some serious anticipation.
Since we're here at the end of the year, it's a perfect time to make a list of things you're grateful for from 2010. I challenge you to actually make a list. Maybe do it with your spouse or a family member. Then, when you're done, spend some time thanking God for every item on that list.
If God is a Father like I am...He'll love it.
Yeah. I'm sure my Papa (my name for my Father God) is a lot like that! I am going to follow your advice and make a list of what I am thankful for in 2010. Good stuff P.E.!
